Gov"t okays thermal power plant in Phu Quoc

Covering an area of more than 60 hectares in Ganh Dau Commune, the US$356 million plant will be developed by the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group.

The plant is scheduled to be operational in 2015.

Phu Quoc is a popular tourist destination in the Gulf of Thailand off the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang.

The plant is expected to address a daily shortfall in power supply in the island where investors and local residents have to pay more for electricity than in the mainland.
