Hanoi Highway expansion project begins

Date Issue: 04-07-2010

CII will invest nearly VND2.3 trillion to expand the highway by another 15.7 kilometers from the Saigon 2 Bridge in District 2 to the new Dong Nai Bridge. The BOT (build-operate-transfer) project is expected to be completed in 2012.

The toll duration will be 25 years and nine months starting January 1, 2019. The highway, to be widened to between 113 and 153 meters, will help ease traffic circulation between eastern HCMC and Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, HCMC vice chairman Nguyen Thanh Tai asked investors and contractors to ensure travel for vehicles during the project, especially for trucks to Cat Lai Port.

Tran Quang Phuong, director of the HCMC Transport Department, said the highway was the major route linking HCMC with southern and northern provinces. Around 13,000 trucks use it to go in and out of Cat Lai Port each day.
