Themed “Vietnam’s Fruits in the Process of Integration,” it showcases fruits grown around the country and promotes host province Tien Giang’s massive fruit-growing and tourism potential, Tran The Ngoc, the province chairman, said.
The event also seeks to honor farmers, scientists, and businesses who have helped raise the profile of the nation’s fruits in global markets.
There will be three seminars at the six-day event on ways to strengthen links between fruit growers, researchers, policymakers, and traders to add value to Vietnamese fruits and promote them at home and abroad.
The festival, which will feature a map of Vietnam and other images created using fresh fruit, is set to become a five-yearly event.
There are 800 booths, 60 of which display fruits grown around the country and sell them at discounts of 5-20 percent.
Its VND25 billion (US$1.3 million) cost has been underwritten by businesses and social organizations.
