HON DAT TOURIST DESTINATION

HON DAT :
         Hon Dat lies on the west coats of Rach Gia Bayis 30 kilometers northwest from Rach Gia city. It is adjacent to Rach Gia and Tan Hiep district in the east, An Giang province in the north, Kien Luong district in the west, and sea in the southwest.
“ Hon Dat” was formed by the same name mountain in the district where is famous for the deeds of arms in the anti – American resistance war. The writer Anh Duc took the name of this mountain for his collection of novels, which was one famous, The terrain of Hon Dat district is a sunken, aluminous, salty field, The land Adjacent to the sea is consolidated with alluvia for many years so Hon Soc, Hon Dat, Hon Me, Hon Queo currently lie in the mainland. Agriculturre and sea products are Hon Dat district’s position of strength
        It is 40 kilometers from Hon Dat to Rach Gia town. People mainly go to Hon Dat by car ( it takes about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes ) or motorbike ( it take 1 hour )
 
 
1. SOC XOAI PAGODA ( Highway 80, 20 kilo,eters from Rach Gia town ):
         In 1885, a Khmer pagoda was build on the road Rach Gia Hon Dat. Traditionally, Soc Xoai pagoda has similiar characteristics of Khmer pagoda. In comparision with other place in Cuu Long delta, Soc Xoai pagoda is an unique architectural work of Khmer ethnic group.
 
2. DAU DOI KILN ( Dau Doi hamlet, Hon Dat town ) :
         Lying beyond the canal Rach Gia – Ha Tien, Dau Doi hamlet is opposite the town market where exists the traditional job of modeling hearths for over 100 years. People also produce some terra – cotta household product such as many kind of cake shape, pots, kiln chimney… Tourists can see rows of hearths with numerous shapes, sizes, colors in the sun, the skilful workers make a kiln in only 15 minutes. After burning, these arre sold by boatmen round Cuu Long delta
 
3. BA HON – HON DAT TOURIST AREA ( Tho Son commune ) :
          Ba Hon area is constitutedof three mountain Hon Me – Hon Dat – Hon Soc. It were formerly islands in the sea so they are called “ Hon”. Ba Hon has thousands of big, small interlacing rock caves in the hillside as the result of heaping stones. Ba Hon connects closely with the relics of reolutionary base : Huyen Uy cave, Cop cave, Ca Sau cave, Number 5 cave …. Here, tourists may enjoy mild village in the fruit garden, mountain’s sillhouette on the very blue Gulf of Thailand.
 
 
4. HON ME TELEVISION TOWER ( Tho Son commune ):
             Hon Me tower gets radi waves from VTV is the highest television tower in Cuu Long delta, broadcasting Tv programs in theGulf of Thailand. Standing on the top of the tower, tourists may feel pleased with views, on this side there are sky, sea and far – away island, on tyar side there are paddy fields and straight canals.
 
5. THE GRAVE OF HEROIC MERTYR PHAN THI RANG ( Tho Son commune ):
             Phan Thi Rang alias Tu Phung, is the prototype of Su in the well known novel “ Hon Dat” of Anh Duc. She sold her life dearly on january 9th, 1962 at the foot of Hon Dat mountain. Surrounding her grave, there are a row of relievo and monumental statues, reamarking heroic combat achivements of Hon Dat people.
 
6. LUON STREAM ( Tho Son commune ):
            This stream is a big cave of halfway Hon Dat mountain. The underground water from the mountain’s womb which overflows all year round is brimful and fresh. The local people think that a big white eal in the stream often rises to the water surface. They are used to bring spring water to drink because they think it may prevent diseases.
 
 
7.HON QUEO PAGODA :
             It was built on the small hill near Hon Me in the north west, half on land half under sea. This was formerly a small temple, built by the local people to worship Thuy Long blessed virgin. Until 1938, superior monk Nguyen Van Dong rebuilt it to become a pagoda for revolutionary. This pagoda is a tourists destination attracting a lot of visitors.
 
8. GIONG XOAI ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE ( Hiep Mi Son commune ):
             This is a religious architecture of the cultural period Oc – Eo ( Phu Nam ), about century II – IV AD. It is beside Oc Eo – Go Cay Thi archaeological site of An Giang. It is a large – scale and whole indamaged archaeological site . it is Oc – Eo brick and stone structure, first discovered in Kien Giang
